Honeywell, a global leader in industrial automation and safety solutions, has introduced its latest advancement in process safety: the FC-QPP-0002 CC V1.0 Quad Processor Pack. This next-generation module is engineered for safety-critical applications and is designed to meet the needs of engineers, plant operators, and system integrators in high-risk industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation.
Released as part of Honeywell's Safety Manager R151 firmware series, the FC-QPP-0002 CC V1.0 represents the second generation of the Quad Processor Pack family. It succeeds the FC-QPP-0002 while maintaining full backward compatibility, ensuring seamless upgrades for existing systems. This enhanced performance module is now available globally for integration into new and upgraded safety instrumented systems (SIS).
The FC-QPP-0002 CC V1.0 is architected to deliver uncompromising safety with diagnostic coverage exceeding 99%, enabling its use in SIL3 applications without time limitation. At its core, a dual-processor design runs synchronously, with every read and write action cross-checked by hardware comparators to ensure data integrity. The module features a sophisticated, fully testable watchdog system that continuously monitors critical parameters including application loop timing, memory integrity, and both 5V and 24V supply voltages for undervoltage and overvoltage conditions. It supports redundant configurations through a dedicated communication link between processors, creating a robust 1oo2D voting architecture. Comprehensive diagnostics provide real-time visibility into system health, monitoring temperature, battery status from the associated BKM-0001 module, and hardware faults, with clear status indication via a front-panel display and LED.
The FC-QPP-0002 CC V1.0 is deployed in hazardous process environments worldwide where system failure is not an option. Its primary applications are found in industries with stringent safety requirements, including oil refineries, offshore platforms, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, power generation facilities, and LNG terminals. Geographically, regions with strong regulatory frameworks for functional safety, such as North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region, represent key markets where this controller is frequently specified and purchased for both new installations and legacy system modernization projects.
To ensure safe operation and optimal performance, specific guidelines must be followed. The industrial automation part may only be safely removed or replaced from the Controller chassis when the processor status key switch is in the STOP position. It is designed to be installed in a pre-determined slot within compatible Honeywell Safety Manager chassis, either CPCHAS-0001 or CPCHAS-0002. For utilizing the emergency Shut Down (SD) input, an external potential-free contact should be connected via the dedicated SICP-0002/L3 cable; if unused, a default link must remain in place on the backplane. The module is conformal coated for protection against harsh industrial environments. Application logic is developed using Honeywell’s graphical Functional Logic Diagram (FLD) programming tool, with the controller executing the user-created program to read inputs, perform safety logic, and control outputs.
